Swedish Water and Wastewater
Through this initiative, Swedish Water House facilitates participation in international processes specifically for actors within the Swedish water and wastewater sector and research. For 2011, two priority areas have been selected: research on drinking water and on biogas from sludge.
Drinking water is our most important provision and Swedish researchers have developed important risk analysis tools and methods to ensure delivery of good and healthy water to the consumers. In order to facilitate the international spread and dialogue on this topic, the cluster group facilitates participation in international arenas by a range of actors including the research programme DRICKS at Chalmers University of Technology, Tekniska Verken and Lund University.
Biogas is an energy source with many advantages. It can decrease dependence on fossil fuels and thereby reduce carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to global warming. In developing countries local biogas production can reduce deforestation for fuel purposes and be used for the production of fertilizers. Sweden has been in the forefront when it comes to research and development of methods for wastewater treatment and biogas production. We therefore aim to develop an exchange of expertise in this field between Swedish and international research.
